I’m a huge fan of Hugh MacLeod, a cartoonist who started his career on the back of business cards.
My better known fans already know this as I reference him regularly in my public activity. He rocks it out. The master of cartoon disaster, the triumphant motivation guru, the conductor of blunt messaging, the no-excuses loose the attitude stop being a lame ass and do something with your life rock star.
I look forward to opening up my Hugh MacLeod Gaping Void cartoon in my inbox every day. It’s my daily nugget of joy. So when a friend of mine brought to my attention that I could become a Gaping Void facebook fan, I obviously jumped on board. When I learned from that facebook page that his new (or soon to be?) community manager is working on getting 100 Gaping Void fans to blog about their favorite cartoon, I poured myself a cup of coffee and started writing.
This cartoon is about fear.
Fear: the reason we don’t do what we want.
Nobody is fearless. Every single ‘great’ in this world has fear. The difference between them and the unhappy nobody’s is knowing how to tackle that fear head on. Overcoming fear might be the single most difficult thing in our lives. But it is also might be the single most important thing in our lives. It’s okay to admit you are afraid, but it’s not okay to let fear control you.
Today - look fear in the face and say, “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
Peace out home skillets.
